2005 May 17 - Mauresmo set for Eastbourne

Amelie Mauresmo has accepted an invitation to play in the Hastings Direct International in Eastbourne as preparation for the Wimbledon Championships.

The French No.1 played at Eastbourne for the first last year and reached the semi-finals. She said:

"It was a great way to prepare for Wimbledon, the area and the courts were very nice.

"I am looking forward to trying to win the trophy this year. "It is always a strong tournament, with excellent players and it will be tough to win, but I am playing well and will give it a good go."

The Belgium Justine Henin-Hardenne is set to feature at Eastbourne for the first time in what will be a very strong field this year. She said:

"I've heard a lot of good things about the tournament from the other players and so decided to change my Wimbledon preparations this year."

Reigning champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia will also be in attendance.
