2004 Sep 20 - National Tennis Centre underway
Work has officially begun on the new £39m National Tennis Centre in Roehampton which is expected to
open for business by the end of 2006.
The facilities will be state-of-the-art and include 6 indoor courts, 16 outdoor courts, a gymnasium and
and the latest sports science and medical facilities.
David Felgate (LTA Performance Director) said:
"The National Tennis Centre will make a huge difference.
"The LTA cannot make top-100 players but we can ensure they have the best opportunity
to realise their talent."
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) will also relocate from their current HQ at Queen's Club in London
to the Roehampton site.
David added:
"The centre will ensure we are able to offer the players the very best in facilities, sports services
and medical support, in the best environment."
John Crowther (LTA Chief Executive) said:
"The National Tennis Centre is the flagship of our performance plan.
"It will bring together the very best coaches and support for Britain's top players and our most
promising youngsters."
