2004 Sep 14 - Rusedski R1 win at Delray Beach

Despite an under-par performance from Greg Rusedski at the US Open he has bounced back with an impressive 7-5 4-6 6-1 win over Belgium's Xavier Malisse in the first round of the International Tennis Championships at Delray Beach, Florida.

The British No.2 was the underdog having lost their previous two matches but had been victorious the last time they played on a hard court in San Jose, USA, 2001.

The match was delayed by two hours due to adverse weather conditions but Greg was focussed from the start and even though he dropped the second set he ran away comfortably to take the third set 6-1 and earn a second round match with 23-year-old American Matias Boeker.
