2004 Jun 19 - Wimbledon: Who's out before the start?

There have been a number of high-profile players absent from this years Wimbledon Championships. The withdrawals are predominantly due to injury which further establishes the need for a longer break than just two weeks between Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

For the fans it is disappointing because everyone wants to see as many top players in action as possible but on the plus side the weaker field should play into the hands of number four seed Tim Henman.

In the men's event we will be missing no less than:

• Andre Agassi
• David Nalbandian
• Gaston Gaudio
• Gustavo Kuerten
• Mario Zabaleta
• Nicolas Escude
• Rafael Nadal
• Younes El Aynaoui

And missing from the women's event will be:

• Amanda Coetzer (retired)
• Anna Kournikova
• Justine Henin
• Kim Clijsters
