2004 Jun 09 - Stella: Henman shock defeat
Tim Henman was defeated 6-2 3-6 7-6(6) by Karol Beck in the second round of the
Stella Artois Championships.
With the British No.1 receiving a first round bye at Queen's Club this was his first match
on grass following an awesome semi-final run on the red clay of Roland Garros. He also has
no plans to play in another grass court tournament before The Wimbledon Championships on
21st June.
After the match Tim said:
"I would have liked to have won more matches here.
"I'm disappointed right now, but I'm sure that a week from Monday I'll be raring to go.
"I need to work on my transition to the grass, and I'll absolutely be doing that over the
next 10 days."
Karol Beck was delighted with the result as this was the first top-10 player he has
defeated, he said:
"It's the best result of my career because Tim Henman is a great player."
