2004 Jun 08 - Wimbledon: Rusedski wildcard
British No.2 Greg Rusedski has been handed a wildcard entry into the Wimbledon Championships as his
world ranking has suffered due to the long running nandrolone drug charges which he was finally
cleared of at an ATP tribunal in March this year.
The remaining three British players receiving wildcards for the men's main draw are the young guns
Alex Bogdanovic and Jonathan Marray and the more experienced Lee Childs. There is one noticeable absence
and that is of Arvind Parmar who is currently ranked as the current British No.3.
The four British women handed wildcards are; Anne Keothavong - who has been playing some of the best tennis
of her career since her move to the USA; Elena Baltacha - who almost upset Jelena Dokic in the first
round in 2003 and reached the third round in 2002 having defeated Maria Vento-Kabchi and Amanda Coetzer
on the way; Jane O'Donaghue and Amanda Janes who have both proved themselves worthy of receiving wildcards
to this years event.
The Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday 21st June.
