2004 Apr 11 - Rusedski wants safe suppliments
After the contaminated supplement scandal that nearly ended the career of Greg Rusedski recently
he is calling for carefully selected supplements to be allowed.
And there is good reason to make such a statement because vitamins are essential for any athlete -
especially for those of the older generation - to assist in their recovery rates. The trouble
at the moment is that there appears to be too many grey areas which will need to become black and white
before confidence can be restored.
Greg stated:
"Professional athletes need to take vitamins and supplements. Players cannot survive on just bread and water.
"I am not taking anything at the moment, I am just getting back to my tennis and doing what I have to do.
"We need to sort things out and be able to have players taking things.
"I think you have to make sure you use a reputable company and I know a lot of guys
are having things tested at labs.
"You need to find a solution and that is what the ATP are trying to do for the players."
