2004 Mar 11 - Lleyton Hewitt wants drug free tennis
Lleyton Hewitt has spoken out after revelations that banned substances have
found a way to many of his fellow tennis professionals.
The former World No.1 and Australian tennis star is one player who is not afraid
to speak his mind, and was in support of Greg Rusedski during his trial. Of the drug
problem that exist in tennis, Lleyton said:
"I'd like to think tennis is pretty much clean most of the time but clearly there's a
problem somewhere.
"I know I'm 100% clean. Still, you come out of some matches with guys who look stronger
in the fifth set than the first. You have to wonder about that.
"There are others on the tour who get tested up to two dozen times a year.
"They are pinpointing some guys more than others."
Lleyton is actually referring to himself who was required to take 15 or 16 drug tests last
year alone - the powers that be will have to accept that the level of energy and intensity
he brings to the game is 100% natural!
