2004 Jan 07 - Henman thumbs up to Centre Court roof
Tim Henman believes a roof on Centre Court is a step in the right direction for the future of the
Wimbledon Championships. And as you couldn't find a more worthy vote of confidence if you tried we
can only agree with the British No.1
With the proposed grand opening (or should that be closing?) of the roof in 2009, the sad truth is that
Tim may not get to play under the roof - in singles at least.
Tim said:
"There are obviously positive and negative aspects in the choice that has been made. But in this
case I believe it is a positive move.
"I talked at length about the subject with Tim Philips (AELTC Chairman) on Monday and
Tuesday evening.
"They have spent a lot of time researching the subject before making a decision and that convinces
me they will use the best available technology to make the project a success.
"Knowing if I will ever play under the roof is an entirely different business. I will be 35 in
2009 so it is a long way away."
